By Faith Not Sight
For we walk by faith, not by sight.2 Corinthians 5:7 This is the verse that God gave me today as my kids and I walked on the wetland's boardwalk.
As we walked we followed the windy path. Not being able to see until we turned a corner and at some points, there was tall grass overflowing onto the boardwalk. The grass was so tall compared to my kids as they used both arms to move through it. Occasionally it brushed over their faces.
Then I started pretending I was a photographer with my Iphone while I stopped to let the kids play. I crouched down low to get a good shot and [BAM] this verse.
We must walk by faith, not by sight in this world. We do not have the ability to see into the future, but God does. If we based our lives and its outcome on what we were going through now, we would probably all give up already.
It is not our job to worry about the future. Our only job is to entrust God with the outcome; trusting Him that he will lead us down the path safely.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
We must live in the now. Not worrying about what lies ahead of us or what we have already passed. That is the beauty in Jesus Christ. He takes all those burdens from us so we can live freely in the present, not being bound down with worry or guilt.
Sometimes there is tall brush draping over the path. This obstacle might be so thick, that we won't be able to see. But, we still, must push past it even if it hits our face, and trust God that He will guide our steps and keep us on the path as we walk in blind faith.
The Lord will go before you and he will stand behind you as you walk.
For the Lord will be your confidence,And will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3:6
Walk in fellowship with the Spirit. Walk by faith in the name of Jesus Christ and you will really see the power it releases and the lives it will change, including yours.Keep your eyes ahead on God. Allow his Holy Spirit to guide you. You can look at that bird on the side of the path, but remember where you are really going and who you are really following. Don't fall off the path.
Today was an amazing reminder why we must always be in the word of God. Even if we are not focusing on scripture memorization the Holy Spirit will bring scripture to your remembrance. And that is exactly what He did for me today. If we are not in His word, then this is not possible for Him to do for us. He brings these scriptures to us so that we will be able to see things correctly and to be encouraged.
And I am here to encourage you today.
If you are off the path and want to get back on (or on for the first time), reach out to Him right now and He will be there. The Lord wants you to seek him. He wants you to reach out to him and he wants you to find him even though he is already not far from each one of you (Acts 17:28).
Pray this prayer if you are off the path and want to get back on:
Lord I know you have a plan for my life. Thank you for being so loyal as I grow in my faith. Holy Spirit empower me to stay true to that faith as I go through hardships in my life. Strengthen me with every trial as I grow closer to you Lord. Thank you for giving me hope and for directing my steps even when I can not see. Thank you Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
Pray this Psalm If you have never been on the path and want to be on it:
My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, O Lord; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands for you have set my heart free. Psalm 119:28-32
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14
