For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10: 3-4There is a war waging in this world and it only gets stronger and stronger. This war is not physical, but spiritual. There is light in this world, but there is also darkness. Whether we like it our not, we are vessels and today we have a choice. A choice to be a vessel for the light, living in freedom or a vessel for the dark, living in bondage.
Knowing whose behind our strongholds
Strongholds: anything that will keep us bound and away from Gods glory.
I have chosen to focus on strongholds today. Why? Because whether we like it or not there is a spiritual battle going on and we are in the midst. Whether we know it or not there is an enemy who pawls around like a lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). He will use strongholds to keep us paralyzed and unable to move forward. He wants to keep us trapped in the past, in our addictions*, in our anxiety, in our pride, in our fear, and in anything that keeps us away from the light of the Lord and His unfailing love. Yes, the enemy is strong, but God is stronger and HE already holds the victory.
so, who is satan and what are some of the things he does.
Keeper of burdens
Satan wants to keep us bound and wants to keep us burdened. He wants us to continue to go through our lives carrying the heaviness that comes with the yoke of slavery. What he doesn't want us to know is that God is always good and we are able to cast our burdens onto HIM.
Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Psalm 68:19
Torturer of the mind
In my life, there are cycles of attacks. Where for about a week my mind feels like its being tormented. The enemy will attack our minds and what I want you to be aware of, is that when he can't get to your mind, he will try and use other people to get to it.
The enemy is after our minds because the mind leads to the heart and the heart ultimately leads to the soul.
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23
So, what can we do?
Focus on Jesus
yes, God wants us to be aware of satan, but He wants us to ONLY focus on Jesus. Jesus came to set us free from our strongholds. He came to be an example of how we should live our lives. Look to him and his teachings. Seek him always.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
His word & prayer = Our weapons.
God does not give us hardships, but he does provide the tools to fight through them. Through Christ Jesus, God so graciously has gifted us with the power to demolish strongholds. He will cover us and he will fight for us.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14
We must firmly place our foot in Him and in His word. In a world of go, go, go, we must find time to be still in His word and in prayer. Without that time of stillness, we can easily become overwhelmed with strongholds. We can even become overwhelmed with ones we thought weren't an issue anymore.
I wake up to meet Jesus in the morning. I get into His word and I allow it to wash me clean. I allow it to soak into my memory. I allow it to be the truth that I hold over my life so when those attacks do hit my mind, I am prepared to fight it.
We must constantly be renewing our minds so that we will be able to detect the schemes of the devil and the systems of this world.
Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete. Romans 12:2 (VOICE)
We need to constantly be reciting His truths and thanking him for who he is: faithful. We need to take our thoughts captive today. We must not allow these torturous thoughts to control us, but instead, fight them with the tools God has given us!
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
HIS victory is our victory
Thankfully for us, God already has conquered satan and He has already overcome the world (John 16:33). All we must do is lean on Him always. Pray to Him and seek his face and His strength. Know that He will go before us. He will deliver us from anything that enslaves us. He will catch us when we fall. He wants us to make HIM our one and ONLY stronghold in the name of Jesus Christ. Can I get an Amen.
The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9
‘I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.' Exodus 6:6
But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57
Pray for truth always
Lord I thank you for your unfailing love. Thank you for the tools you have given us which your Holy Spirit empowers to ensure us the victory. Lord, today I need your truth. I need the balance, the stability, and the resistance it gives me. Lord never before have I had a high standard of living, but your truth gives that to me, thank you.
Lord thank you for holding us steady and strong by your truth. Strength your truth in my life so I may not buckle under pressure. Lord give me the wisdom to always stand firm in your truth so that your strength will flow into every area of my life. Lord give me a firm confidence in your promises so that I will have the holy courage and spiritual strength to carry out what you have or will call me to do. Thank you for freeing me Lord and for giving me righteousness. Open my eyes to the things I need to restrict in order to move forward as I submit to you daily allowing me to advance against the enemy. Lord I am calling out to you. I need your light to pierce through the darkness. Lay bare the schemes, the systems, and the illusions of the enemy.
Lord I am boldly asking you to give me the courage to hold your truth as a banner over my life, over my families life, and as a banner over my home. As for me and my household, we will serve you Lord. Suffocate the enemy with your light Lord. your truth is the standard of my life now.Thank you for your unfailing love for us and thank you for your true faithfulness. In Jesus name. Amen.
