Steps Toward Wisdom: proverbs 3
For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
The first [unofficial] step to a wisdom-filled life is obedience. Obedience is how we are able to follow the steps that God has laid out for us. Start taking the steps toward a relationship with the Lord and seek him and his wisdom, always.
My child,never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart.If you do this, you will live many years and your life will be satisfying. Proverbs 3:1-2
The steps laid out today are found in proverbs 3. The proverbs were written by Solomon, the son of David. In the beginning of proverbs, he lays out the purpose and the theme.
Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young. Proverbs 1: 1-4
So, the main purpose of proverbs is to teach people wisdom so we can be successful in life. And it is our choice whether we apply the teaching to our own lives or not. We don't need to go through life trying to figure things out on our own. Yes, we will be much wiser when we are older, but the Lord has also laid out guidelines so that even the young can be wise. We are able to gain wisdom where we are, right now.Wisdom with age comes from ourselves, but wisdom right now, comes from the Lord. Although we will never be able to escape the hardships that come with life, these teachings WILL keep us from causing ourselves hardships.
1. Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 3: 3-4
2. Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3: 5
3. In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6
4. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8
5. Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10
6. My child, do not reject the Lords discipline,
and don’t be upset when he corrects you. For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. Proverbs 3: 11-12 (NLT).
Wisdom will bless us
Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. By wisdom the Lord laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. Proverbs 3: 13-20
7. never lose sight of God’s wisdom and knowledge:
make decisions out of true wisdom, guard your good sense, and they will be life to your soul and fine jewelry around your neck. Then each one of your steps will land securely on your life’s journey, and you will not trip or fall. Your mind will be clear, free from fear; when you lie down to rest, you will be refreshed by sweet sleep. Proverbs 3: 21-24 (VOICE).
8. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3: 25-26 (NKJV)
9. Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.
Do not say to your neighbor, "come back later; ill give it tomorrow"- when you now have it with you. Proverbs 3: 27-28
10. Do not plot harm against your neighbor,
who lives trustfully near you. Do not accuse a man for no reason when he has done you no harm. Proverbs 3: 29-30
11. Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways.
For the devious are an abomination to the Lord; But He is intimate with the upright. Proverbs 3: 31-32 (NASB).
The curse of the Lordis on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the home of the just. Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble. The wise shall inherit glory, But shame shall be the legacy of fools. Proverbs 3: 33-35 (NKJV).
Wisdom is not about how much we know or don't know. We could be the smartest people on earth and still not grasp what it means to be truly living. We don't have to learn the hard way or the way the world tells us to learn. We are able to surrender all control to our Heavenly Father, who will go before us and pave our path while guiding our steps. We have a Father who will ultimately bring us into our purpose. Wisdom will release the burden from us and wisdom will set us free.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5
Always, always, always ask God for wisdom.
